* Info about the remaining facilitators is coming soon… For now – meet Tannah.

Hi! I’m Tannah, and I’ll be facilitating the Teen Skills Lab workshops, supported by a group of amazing teen volunteers and my mom — a teacher with more than 20 years of experience working with children.

I grew up in South Africa, and I was part of the student leadership at my school. I led a small group of younger students who met with me every week, and we’d check in, talk through what was going on, and help each other handle things better. I was also a House Captain (kind of like a student community leader) where I helped lead events and school spirit, and looked out for younger students.

Outside of school I babysit, and I honestly love being around kids and younger teens.

Now that I’m in Yucatán, I’m part of the Yucatán Giving Outreach A.C. teen volunteer program, where we meet once a month to volunteer and help in the community.

One of the best things about my previous schools was that there were programs where older students got the chance to lead and show younger students how to handle situations in a positive way—like friendship issues, confidence stuff, and conflict. It wasn’t about trying to change who you are to “fit in,” but learning how to be yourself and still deal with challenges well.

After experiencing that, I started thinking: we might really need something like that here too—especially for slightly younger teens who want to make good friendships in a supportive environment. I really appreciated how caring and helpful the older teens were in those programs, and I wanted to pass that on.

I love playing games, learning through experiences, and then talking about what we noticed and what we learned.
